Forage of The Month: Cleavers & Nettle Spring Tonic
One of my favourite things to make as spring arrives. Cleavers (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galium_aparine) grows abundantly in gardens/allotments and any marginal area. Also known as goose grass and sticky willie, it's the one that you can throw at your friend's back & it'll stick there without them feeling a thing.
Cleavers and nettle make one of the best spring tonics (great for the lymphatic system & full of nutrition).
Method: gather a small handful of the young leaves of each plant & crush in a pestle & mortar with a little added water. Strain & keep the juice, Repeat the crushing & straining, to get a glassful of juice. Drink straight away while it's vibrant green.
I'll be having a glass every morning for the next month or so. Cheers!

At last things are starting to get warmer, why not make the most of the sunshine next week and come and stay with us. Relax in one of our hot tubs- sit and enjoy some of our lovely home reared produce whilst enjoying the evening song.
Have a look at our Glamping options or bring your own tents.

The days are starting to grow longer and signs of spring are beginning to show. At this time of year, early spring flowering plants and shrubs can be found in a range of environments such as woodlands, grasslands, and gardens. Here are some to look out for when out and about:

Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) - They flower from January to March and can be found in deciduous woodland, parks, gardens, verges and meadows

Lesser celandine (Ficaria verna) - The lesser celandine is a native plant with yellow star-like flowers, 8 to 12 petals and dark heart-shaped leaves. It flowers from March to May and tends to grow on damp woodland paths, stream banks and ditches, in hedgerows, meadows and gardens

Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) - The bluebell is a native plant that is easily recognised by the intense blue petals and white-cream coloured pollen. They flower from mid-April to May and can be found in broadleaved woodland, hedgerows and fields
